Ganesh Chaturthi 2022 - When should we do Ganesh Visarjan

Ganesh Chaturthi is a vibrant and joyful event that families eagerly anticipate. Ganesh Chaturthi 2022 will begin on Wednesday, August 31. The shubh mahurat (auspicious time) of bringing Lord Ganesha home will start at 12 PM and last till 10 PM on August 31, 2022. This means that you can bring him home and do the sthapna at any time after 12 PM. The festival lasts three to ten days, depending on the location, and ends with Ganesh Visarjan of Lord Ganesh's goodbye. After that, families do the Visarjan for one and a half, three, five, seven, or eleven days, depending on their tradition.

Ganesh Visarjan 2022 Dates And Time

Although Anant Chaturdashi is the most auspicious day to perform Ganesh Visarjan, many families have traditions to do it on another day during the 10-day long festival as well. Therefore, most Ganesh Visarjans at home take place on one and half-day, three days, five days, or seven days after Ganesh Chaturthi.

No special Pooja is needed to be done on the day of Visarjan. Perform the Pooja you normally did during the festival before bidding Lord Ganesha a goodbye for the year. You can perform Ganesh Visarjan by taking the murti of Lord Ganesha to any nearby waterbody and immersing him in the water. If the murti you bought is an eco-friendly one made of mud, you can also perform the Visrajan in your backyard with a bucket of water. You can further use the settled mud for potted plants.

Significance Of Ganesh Visarjan

Just like all our traditions, even Ganesh Visarjan holds a deeper meaning and significance. The 11-day-long celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi is a symbolic representation of our life cycle that has a beginning (birth) and an end(death). This is just one of the many meanings behind this festival.

Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the Lord who'll remove obstacles from our lives and bring a new beginning. The cycle of Ganesh Chaturthi is a symbolic representation of just that. It is believed that when we bring Lord Ganesh into our home, he brings new beginnings and opportunities with him. But, on the other hand, when he leaves our home during Visarjan, he takes all our problems and obstacles with him.

Things To Keep In Mind During Ganpati Visarjan

  • Observe celibacy throughout the 11 days of Ganesh Chaturthi.
  • Perform puja and offer bhog one last time at home before taking the idol for Visarjan.
  • Don't shut the door close of the house when the idol is carried out for Visarjan.
  • If you have performed the Visarjan at home in a bucket, keep the bucket untouched for the next 3-4 days. After that, you can use the mud and water for your garden or even the community park.

Conclusion

The festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated every year with tremendous apprehension. And, as always, we pray Lord Ganesha may shower us with blessings and remove all obstacles from our lives this year. If you are bringing Lord Ganesha to your home the first time and aren't well-versed with the rituals, book a pandit for the Sthapna and Visarjan so that you can learn the right way of doing the Pooja.
